Out on the Shelves (OOTS) is a growing online reading resource that lists books from around the world with rainbow themes and characters. Uplifted by an annual campaign every June, Out on the Shelves also supports school and community libraries to grow their rainbow reading collections and help connect rainbow people to their stories and each other.

Out on the Shelves Campaign Month

June 2024

The Out on the Shelves awareness campaign is held annually in June. It boasts an array of programming, workshops, events and competitions for rainbow young people and participating school and community libraries. Our campaign month provides an important opportunity to uplift and celebrate rainbow stories and storytelling in schools and communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Get Involved!

There are lots of ways to get involved–big and small!

Currently, we’d love volunteers to help us with book suggestions, content reading, book reviews and working with local libraries.

Ko wai mātou? Who are we?

Out on the Shelves is run by InsideOUT Kōaro, a national charity with the vision for all rainbow young people in Aotearoa New Zealand to have a sense of belonging and safety in their schools and communities. We are responsible for running Shift Hui and Schools Pride Week Aotearoa and providing resources and support to schools on anything rainbow related!

Ngā mihi nui and a huge thank you to our Out on the Shelves supporters!
